Scholarships & Financial Aid

LUCG is committed to granting equal opportunities to students who qualify to pursue programs at the university, regardless of their financial resources. In that regard and through the benevolence of LUCG and grants from generous individuals and organizations, LUCG awards significant need-based financial support to qualified students.

Students eligible for financial aid will be granted full or partial financial support to cover their tuition fees, textbooks, housing, and meals. Scholarships are awarded to students who apply for it prior to their admission to LUCG. For continuing students opportunity for financial support is highly limited.

Scholarship Selection Process

Applicant's Profile

First, based on a set admission criteria and applicant’s overall profile, the Admission Committee determines who should be given an offer of admission to pursue a program at LUCG.

Application Review

Next, once a candidate is deemed qualified for admission into a program, the applicant’s application for financial aid is passed on to the LUCG Scholarship Committee for review. The application is reviewed on the basis of documented financial need and upon a thorough assessment by the committee of all information gathered during the admissions process for each candidate.

Scholarship Award Letter

Finally, successful candidates are issued with an award letter, spelling out the quantum of the financial aid and the terms and conditions.

Admission Requirements

The Office of Financial Aid and scholarships has set policies and standards that students are required to adhere to. These policies include:

  • Must be enrolled full-time (i.e., they must be enrolled in three or more courses) at LUCG in an academic program leading to the award of a degree
  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • Must not be in default on a student loan or owe a repayment on a student grant

Guidance & Advice

Students should apply for financial aid at the time of applying for admission;

    • The Scholarship Committee will determine the award on the basis of demonstrated need and the strength of your application.
    • Any family that cannot afford the full fees should complete a financial aid application form and turn it in with their admissions application and supporting documents (e.g. bank statements, pay slips, utility bills, medical bills and any other relevant documentation).
    • You will also need to accompany your application for financial aid with a letter justifying why you need financial aid.
    • The more information you can include to support your inability to pay the full fees, the easier it will be to process your request.
    • Retention Requirements

Students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment status during the first and second semesters, in order to retain their award.

Student Loans

Just like any recognised tertiary institution in Ghana, all registered students of LUCG are entitled to Government of Ghana student loans disbursed through the Student Loan Trust Fund.

The Student Loan Trust Fund is a government agency charged with the responsibility of granting loans to students at various tertiary institutions.
