A high-powered delegation from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria (HUI) visited Lakeside University College, Ghana (LUCG), on the campus of the latter in Lakeside Estates, Ashaley Botwey in Accra, from 12th. June 2023 to 14th. June 2023, to discuss a partnership agreement between the two universities.
The three-day programme resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enable the universities to enter into a formal partnership agreement for strategic cooperation.
The LUCG Team was led by its President, Dr. Mohammed-Sani Abdulai, the Registrar of LUCG, Mr. Daniel Bukhari, and Dr. Nassar Gamel Adam, a council member of LUCG. They were assisted by other members of the University Management Committee.
Prof. Noah Yusuf led the HUI delegation and was also assisted by Prof. Mukaila Aremu (Council Member, HUI) and Dr. Kazeem Olademeji (Registrar, HUI).
The discussion focused on a series of issues bothering collaboration and research, organization of joint conferences, holding workshops and seminars, faculty and student exchange programs, inter-library lending, and document delivery.
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Yusuf prayed that the two institutions work very hard to make the MOU a reality. He cited a situation where a similar MOU was signed but it did not materialize. On his part, Dr. Abdulai said, “I urge the joint committees that will work on this MOU to consider their work a priority in order to enable the purpose of this partnership to be achieved in real-time. I am hopeful that the two universities, especially, their students will benefit immensely from this partnership agreement”.
Other members at the signing ceremony, from the two universities, were of the view that such a collaboration between universities of sister nations like Ghana and Nigeria is a necessity for the realization of the South-South Cooperation Agenda.
Joint committees from the two universities will be constituted to work on the MOU in the nearest future. The HUI delegation has since left Ghana for Nigeria.
